β₯ Character Information
Character Name: V
Character Age: 43 days | 43 years
Character Species: Human half of a half demon.
Current Health: Not gonna lie, you're not supposed to live like this. So dying, but arrested by coming to Folkmore.
Outfit: image here. The cane comes with because it is an accessibility aid (even if he also hits things with it).

Character Canon: Devil May Cry
Link to History: He has Vergil's memories through the start of Devil May Cry 5 (shared history, as being the human half). His unique history starts May 1st, when he was made.
Canon Point: About 1:30 PM on June 15th (DMC5)
Canon Iteration: Original canon
Canon Iteration Explanation: Not required, but to make things make sense, Vergil splits himself in half with the Yamato to make himself a pure demon. V, his human half, gets discarded along with his memories (nightmares) that he sees making himself weak. His memories becomes demon-like creatures of limited demonic energy that need a host, and V forms pacts with three of them. That gives him his memories back in a nonsensical way (hey), and he's one of the protagonists in the game. He's a unique character to Vergil (and Vergil's player agrees with that/him being around in game).

β₯ Folkmore Roles & Attributes
Skills:
πŸ“– Hand-to-hand combat
πŸ“– Survival
πŸ“– Swordsmanship
Canon Abilities: As Vergil's human half, V has extremely little demonic energy (vestigial, one might say). As such he doesn't have supernatural abilities himself beyond his ability to form pacts with the other discarded parts of Vergil: the dregs, the unwanted portions, what made him human. V gained tattoos for each Familiar, which disappear when they emerge. Their individual abilities are noted below. However, since they are dreams, they cannot kill anyone themselves. V has to deliver the final blow.
🐦 Griffon is the only Familiar that has human speech and almost never shuts upβ€”annoying, much like Dante is to Vergil. If you can't have your brother, manifest part of yourself with the same personality. He has electricity based demonic powers and, as a birb, can fly. He can carry V for limited distances.

πŸˆβ€β¬› Shadow is a shapeshifting jaguar Familiar. He can shapeshift, using his own body as a weapon. He can also take human shape (V has used Shadow to pretend to be him while fighting demons), but cannot speak human languages. Griffon understands him. Shadow can also carry V as a like… disc. Shadow doesn't have the full abilities of a Shadow demon (no immunity to physical attacks, core defense, or self-destruct).

πŸͺ¨ Nightmare is a rocky automaton modeled off the original Nightmare. By default 3.5 meters tall, but it can become bigger. It's extremely powerful, so that V can only have it out for short periods of times, where it can handle large numbers of enemies or more powerful ones. Nightmare can also heal the other Familiars.
Role: Myth
Role Qualities/Attributes: Urizen's appearance/root armor and abilities. The more Mythic V acts, the greater his appearance looks like his demonic half and the greater demonic energy he has to control the roots (tails) and emit energy. His self-preservation and threat detection will create a crystal of demonic power in defense when he's Urizen-ed enough. The rest of the time, it'll be a tickling sensation, like a root brushing his mind. Otherwise he only has passive attributes like improved speed and resistance to poisons.
Role Reasoning: While fully human, V is no more intrinsically good than Vergil. He's weaker and still doesn't want to die. He faces his weaknesses because he must yet solves his problems logically, as cut off from human society as Vergil. He masks his emotions around Dante and Nero most the time and lies by omission. The problem needs solving, not emotions.

Removed from his world, V has the opportunity and obligation to face issues that simply had no time to matter in his world: relationships, long term existence, and commitment to facing his weaknesses. V still couches getting Nero's help as using him, when really Nero just helps. He lies to people until he cannot, so he can focus on solving the problem. So now, outside of emergency mode, what are the consequences? How will he grow? How does he face his weaknesses and flaws? He can be his own person… for more than 43 days.
β₯ Personality
πŸ“– What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?

V is in such transition that he lacks a settled moral code. Previously, he lived by the idea that one needs strength to survive, much less protect others. That power, enough power, has always been ever out of reach, and he was single minded in seeking it, others be damned (the way they damned him).

V has become the person needing help from others. It's led him to start helping others. First and foremost is the principle of reciprocity: help others so that they help him. So that he survives. He also allows sympathy to guide him, to recognize himself in a woman being mugged not wanting to give up her mother's necklace, to see himself in an eight year old boy not wanting to abandon his mother. Oh, he's still plenty of a dick and insults the eight year old, but he helps. Further comes imitation. V helps others because Dante, the strongest person he knows to face Urizen, does. It's a pale imitation, but it's there.

His survival, in the face of all of this, and the help he receives, enables him to try to fix the problem he caused. He feels responsible for Urizen, for the qliphoth tree, and for the destruction it wreaks. He cannot solve it himself, directly, but going to others, guiding them toward that path, and traveling with them to see it done… it's the most responsibility for the consequences of his actions that he's taken when previously such collateral damage was none of his concern (those so weak as to die deserved it).

So his moral code is a work in progress, one that currently maintains plenty of self-interest but also seeks to extend to others what he receives or wants to receive for himself.

πŸ“– What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise.

All V does is struggle. All he sees are further struggles before him.

Physically, he's weak. He relies on a cane to walk, when he can move himself, and sometimes needs to be carried. When he uses too much power, he passes out and leaves himself defenseless. His skin has started to crumble because his very existence is a state of dying. He cannot fight as powerful of demons as before and needs help, even rescuing. It's a struggle that will not end so long as he lives.

Emotionally, he's buried the reasonable desires of an eight year old child to be saved and to be protected for most of his life. Only as V, only when others have done so, can he recognize that for his younger self. Power saved him that day, not others, and it's become a crutch far worse than his cane. After a lifetime of avoiding the worst memories and his weakness in them, V has committed to face them. He's started the process in so much time as he's had, but that focus has remained practical. The goals he's needed to accomplish shape that, and it will take continued existence, as Folkmore offers, for him to struggle to see that through on his own as he is.

Further, his self-isolation in the search for power has left V with no one to truly call friend or family. His Familiars are the closest he has to that, and they understand each other in ways strangers cannot because they are formed of his memories. They are, for all they resemble the original demons whose shape they've taken, part of him. V relied on others but in an emotionally distant way. He cannot claim any closeness to Dante or Nero, and he will have to struggle to connect to others.

πŸ“– Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?

The only person V's had a chance to forgive is himself. He forgives himself for being weak, as a child and now, and he forgives Urizen for being weak by relying on power and standing alone. Some may have greater difficulty forgiving themselves than others, but for V, forgiving himself is the first step. It creates space for V to consider forgiving others for their mistakes.

That is not to say it would be an easy decision or even a sure decision. V felt no mercy for those who jumped him expecting an easy target because he used a cane, and those lucky enough to survive that mistake would not be quickly forgiven even if they apologized. So for someone who has wronged him more personally? It's an uphill battle. They have a chance.

The other good news is that it's difficult to get V to hold a grudge. He understands the reasons people protect themselves and might not care what harm or damage they do to him. Most people aren't worth remembering tightly enough to hold a grudge against. The most certain target of a grudgeβ€”Mundusβ€”is already dead.

V'd no pushover and won't simply accept being treated like shit, but he's mostly trying to live his life as best he can.

πŸ“– What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?

No physical location is V's safe space. His childhood home is the very space where Vergil cut him out and left him to die. That along with the memories of seeing the home burn, alone in the world, undercuts the safety in the earlier parts of his life spent there. Nor has he established a home since in his life.

Instead, he feels safest with his Familiars, with Griffon and Shadow outside of him and able to watch over him. Should anyone attack him, they will immediately protect him. Yet it's more than that. Griffin dunks him in a fountain to wash him and fishes him out when concerned V might let himself drown. Shadow cooks demon meat to feed him and curls around V to let him sleep. It's self-care and safety personified (so to speak). He's looked after and not alone with his thoughts.

Weak as V is, he relaxes and becomes confident in battle. It's a familiar playground for him, one he's played on most his life, and once battle begins, it's a simple matter. Fight and survive or die. There's no time to worry about whether it's better to flee or should he find someone else. Once it commences, the stage is his. He does what he needs to win.

casual touch ✱ physical assistance ✱

physical affection: V's Familiars (okay, Griffon and Shadow) may get touchy touchy, but V isn't used to a great deal of physical affection. He's more likely to keep some distance than get especially chummy. He'll ask for physical assistance when he needs it and sometimes will accept offers from help. Otherwise, prepare to put in some effort to be allowed into his physical space.
fighting while injured βœ”οΈŽ minor injuries βœ”οΈŽ killing others ✱ major injuries ✱ sparring ✱ srs altercations ✱ temporary death ✱ permanent death ✘

physical violence: V has spent much of his life fighting, whether that's as V or in his memories before he was separated from Vergil. It's familiar ground if nothing else. It happens. He expects it. Tada. Due to his magical and physical limitations, he won't spar with just anyone, and I'd prefer to plot serious stuff before going down that route.
flirting βœ”οΈŽ homoerotic moments βœ”οΈŽ romance ✱ sex ✱ fast burn ✘

romance & sex: Romance and sex haven't been a priority in his life. They aren't about to become a priority in his life, even if stepping away from his life is the first time he's truly had a chance to breathe and consider those options. He'll flirt easily enoughβ€”as much with an enemy as a friend (have to have friends to flirt with them). Yet it usually doesn't mean anything beyond having a good time with the time he has. Since his existence is limited, he also may try to push away people to protect them.
internal conversation βœ”οΈŽ using abilities on V ✱ V using abilities on others ✘

psychic abilities: V has pacts with Griffon, Shadow, and Nightmare. Griffon is the only one who speaks exactly (how V can understand), and those conversations can happen when Griffon is out and about to be heard by others... or when Griffon is inside V, no more than tattoos on his skin and an externalization of an annoying baby brother. What? So V can have some internal conversation, which may be picked up on by someone with the right abilities. Please reach out/get permission first before using psychic abilities on V.
familiars βœ”οΈŽ demonic power ✱

magic: V has pacts with Griffon, Shadow, and Nightmare. These familiars are nightmares, discarded memories and limited demonic power, from when Vergil split himself into V and Urizen. They are part of him, and they are not. They're bound to him, and they keep each other alive, at least a little longer. The nightmares are V's primary means of doing major damage in combat. However, they cannot deal the final blow. That comes at V's hand. V has the dregs of some demonic power left in him, but it's not much. He reads as human to most people, so it'd take a sensitive one to register him as a magical girl having power.
human βœ”οΈŽ you don't look well βœ”οΈŽ hair color ✱

medical information: The first sign V might not be able bodied is that he walks with a cane. However, beyond that, he gets tired easily, is gaunt, and has the stamina of a chronically ill teenager (should he continue to do more? no. will he? if he thinks he must, no matter the bad decision consequences). Further, his skin has started to crack. It's bad times. His hair usually looks black. Technically, it's tattooed black. The white gets revealed should he summon Nightmare.
